Renovotec · Designed and built

PackingBench

Built Renovotec’s own proof-of-packing application, joining barcode validation, CCTV evidence, label printing, packing history and reporting.

Result: an in-house application replacing reliance on third-party software for customer demonstrations.

Engineering detail

Connected scanning, imagery, CCTV references and labels into one operational path. The challenge was keeping physical events and the records used for later investigation consistent.

Idumet · Founder and sole engineer

Frank

Designed and built an accessibility assistant for blind and low-vision users: voice interaction, camera context and user-controlled memory.

Current status: Android internal testing with approximately 10 private testers and user and accessibility-expert feedback. iOS planned.

Engineering detail

Owned the Android client, authenticated REST and WebSocket service, persistence, signed release pipeline and monitored deployment. Added failure-path tests for stale frames, reconnection and provider failures. Extra hardware is optional.

Idumet has been a personal commitment for over two years. Frank’s current product work began in March 2025.

LastMile

Modernised the dashboard of a commercial proof-of-delivery platform and led its move from .NET Framework 4.8 to .NET 8 and EF Core.

Delivered: the migration and rewritten services where obsolete packages could not be carried forward.

Engineering detail

Worked through existing application behaviour and dependencies, updating data access and services alongside the dashboard. This required understanding the old system before deciding what to replace.

Designed and built PackingBench and the .NET MAUI expenses app; led the LastMile migration. Managed Android and iOS signing, testing and store submissions for an internal pilot including the Technical Director.

Also built a ProGlove-enabled picking proof of concept, gathered customer requirements, estimated delivery, deployed releases and investigated production defects.

Own the product from prototype to Android internal testing, backend services and cloud operations. Develop it through direct user feedback.

Built market-intelligence, cryptocurrency-management, payroll and records applications. Developed React interfaces and Node.js, PHP and MySQL backends, with localisation, role-based access, Jest and GitHub Actions.

The person behind the work · 2021–2025

Different uniforms. Same responsibility.

Night shifts, retail floors, functions and kitchens were part of my path into software. They taught me to show up, notice what people need and stay useful when things get busy. Those habits came with me.

Reliability is practical.

Someone depends on your shift, your handover or your release. Finishing the less exciting parts counts.

People are part of the system.

Customer service taught me to listen closely and explain clearly. That helps when gathering requirements and building for real users.

Keep your head in the rush.

Prioritise, communicate and deal with the next problem. The kitchen offered very little room for a dramatic loading screen.
